The University of Coimbra is seeking for one Doctoral degree researcher (BI-PhD) to work in the project “EMSURE – Energy and Mobility for Sustainable Regions. Applicant should be PhD in engineering, sciences or similar areas and will be appointed for 6 months duration. Research grant is also offered to the researcher. The amount of the scholarship is 1 495, 00€, paid monthly at the end of the month by bank transfer. The research grant is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER) and the Foundation for Sciences and Technology. The project will be based in ADAI e Departamento de Engenharia Mecânica.

Study Subject(s): The University of Coimbra is offering a position to work on the project “EMSURE – Energy and Mobility for Sustainable Regions”. Type of activity is as follows:

1) Implementation of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) studies    to analyze the environmental performance of different construction solutions for new walls (incorporating  recycled and renewable materials); comparison with walls of conventional construction;

2) LCA of Bioenergy systems, including advanced biofuels produced from residual forest biomass;

3) Integrated life cycle analysis to assess the environmental and economic performance of a geothermal power plant.

Course Level: Position is offered to work on a 6 months project.

Scholarship Provider: The research grant is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER) and the Foundation for Sciences and Technology.

The scientific orientation of the grant will be ensured by Professor Fausto Freire and Professor Lino de Oliveira Santos (co-supervisor). The amount of the scholarship is 1 495, 00€, paid monthly at the end of the month by bank transfer. This amount is increased by the voluntary social security corresponding to the first level, in case the candidate elects this possibility, as well as personal accidents insurance. The value of the grant will not increase over the whole period of its duration.The attribution of the scholarship does not generate or entitle a relation of a legal-labour nature, is undertaken in an exclusive dedication regime and attributed to the Scholar within the Scholar Statute of the University of Coimbra, based on the Regulation of Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT)

Selection Criteria: Curriculum evaluation and analysis and interview for the 3 top finishers. The ranking formula for final positioning will be AC*0.7+E*0.3, where AC refers to the classification of the Academic Curriculum evaluation and E to the interview.
