Thiess in partnership with the International Riversymposium and International Water Centre Alumni Network (IWCAN) sponsoring the River Management Young Achievers Award (RMYAA). The winner will receive AUD $3000, with each runner up receiving AUD $250. Domestic or international professionals or students aged 35 or under on 5 July 2013 with at least 2 years’ experience in a river related sector are eligible. Applicants must have demonstrated leadership and positive outcomes in a river-related area. Students can apply electronically.

Course Level: River Management Young Achievers Award provides an opportunity to the finalists to receive the deserved recognition for their accomplishments. The finalists will present their case study at the 16th International Riversymposium.

Scholarship Description: Often, achievement is done by those who are working either individually or as a team. Candidates are encouraged to apply if they have accomplished river management goals in a team or group project. Be sure to articulate what role you played as a member of the team and how you demonstrated leadership or achievement. This year the award will be dedicated to Dr Peter Oliver. Teacher, social scientist, scholar, researcher, activist, pioneer, visionary, mentor, friend . He was a man who walked, talked and breathed his vision of true integrated water management. Selection Criteria: A maximum of three finalists will be selected through the evaluation of a written descriptive case study demonstrating leadership and project achievements (e.g. a new catchment management initiative, setting up a new waterway group where you played a significant role) or showcasing significant research as part of a Masters or PhD program. An independent expert panel of judges will select the finalists.
Notification: The results of stage one of the judging are announced by email to the candidates. The selected finalists then proceed to stage two of the judging. Entrants will be advised if they are finalists by 9th August 2013. To progress to the final assessment, the finalists are required to attend the Riversymposium. The finalists will present their work in a short oral presentation to an audience that includes the judges during the Riversymposium. The winner will be announced during the Riverprize Gala Dinner.
