Susan Byrne Memorial Award for Graduate Women in New Zealand

Victoria University of Wellington offers Susan Byrne Memorial Award for graduate women applicants to study or research in New Zealand. Applicants for the award must be a citizen of New Zealand or permanent resident of New Zealand of at least five years. The field of study or research is unrestricted and the Award is tenable at any recognised New Zealand University, polytechnic or tertiary institution or through an overseas institution accredited by an agency established under the law of the host country. Evidence of such accreditation may need to be provided if the New Zealand Federation of Graduate Women does not know the standing of the institution. The application deadline is 31st August 2013.

Eligibility: -Applicants for the award must be:

- a degree graduate of a university or other degree granting institution in New Zealand or overseas;

- in an existing career or have had a previous career;

- intending to make a change in career;

-a citizen of New Zealand or permanent resident of New Zealand of at least five years;

- at least 35 years of age.

-The field of study or research is unrestricted and the Award is tenable at any recognised New Zealand University, polytechnic or tertiary institution or through an overseas institution accredited by an agency established under the law of the host country. Evidence of such accreditation may need to be provided if the New Zealand Federation of Graduate Women does not know the standing of the institution.


Scholarship Open for International Students: The students of New Zealand can apply for these scholarships.


Scholarship Description: Susan Byrne was a member of NZFGW who died in 2004 and generously bequeathed a sum of money to NZFGW with the suggestion that an award be established for women graduates wanting to make a change of career in mid life.She first graduated in 1975 at Victoria University of Wellington, and in 1980 completed a PhD at Imperial College, University of London. She was a lecturer at Victoria, Massey University (Palmerston North) and eventually the University of Auckland where she began in the Engineering School and then moved to the Faculty of Business and Economics. She progressed through Mathematics, Operations Research and finally Management Information Systems.
