School of Modern Languages Additional Master Studentship for 2013-2014 Entry in UK

Newcastle UniversitySchool of Modern Languages of Newcastle University is offering SML Alumni Scholarship, MLitt studentship and number of fees-only bursaries for 2013/14 entry. SML Alumni Scholarship is for either the MA in Professional Translating for European Languages or for MLitt study. MLitt studentship starting in October 2013 is to enable a student to carry out research on a topic in one of the following fields: Chinese and Japanese Studies; French and Francophone Studies; German Studies; Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies; Film Studies; Linguistics; Translating and Interpreting Studies. A number of fees-only bursaries (equivalent to Home/EU fees, pro-rata for part time students) are offered for MA students. Applicant must first hold an offer of a place to study for a MLitt at Newcastle University (for this he/she will need to apply via the web portal) before the university can process the applicant’s MLitt studentship.

Eligibility: The SML Alumni Scholarship is one further scholarship available for students starting postgraduate study in September/October 2013. This award will be made to the most promising applicant for either the MA in Professional Translating for European Languages or for MLitt study. Preference will be given to those specialising in German. All applications received by 28th June will automatically be considered for this award.

We work as an integrated school in terms of both research and teaching, allowing us to develop true interdisciplinarity within and across our language sections, and with other schools in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS).


Number of award(s): One SML Alumni Scholarship, One MLitt studentship and a number of fees-only bursaries are offered (The exact number on offer will depend on the quality of applications received).


Duration of award(s): The studentship will commence on 01/10/2013 or as soon thereafter as possible, for a period of 1 year.


What does it cover? MLitt studentship candidate will receive:

-An maintenance stipend of £ 10,000

-A waiver for UK/EU fees

-Appropriate research training.

The School of Modern Languages is also offering a number of fees-only bursaries (equivalent to Home/EU fees, pro-rata for part time students) for MA students.
