RS 75.71 LAKH SCHOLARSHIP GIVEN TO 13,099 HANDICAPPED STUDENTS

HANDICAPPED STUDENTSUnder the ‘Nishaktjan Chhatrvritti Yojana’ (handicapped scholarship scheme) run by the Social Welfare Department, Rs 75.71 lakh scholarship has been distributed to 13,099 students studying in the primary, secondary and higher secondary schools in the State, according to their eligibility in the year 2012-13.


Provision has been made in this scheme to give scholarship Rs 50 to 240 per month according to their classes. Rs 50 to 100 reader allowance has also been given to the visually impaired students. According to the officers of the social welfare department, in the year 2012-13, scholarship has been given to 4,334


scheduled tribe students, 2.551 scheduled caste students, 5,251 other backward class students and 963 general category students.


Scholarship has been provided to 739 students of Raipur district. Similarly, 233 students in Balodabazar, 354 students in Gariaband, 540 students in Mahasamund, 479 students in Dhamtari, 325 students in Durg, 86 students in Bemetara, 428 students in Balod and 952 students in Rajnandgaon district have been given scholarship.


The departmental officers said that, 545 students in Kabirdham district, 1,517 students in Jagadalpur district, 240 students in Kondagaon, 38 students in Narayanpur, 524 students in Dantewada, 173 students in Sukma and 62 students in Bijapur district have been provided the scholarship.


Similarly, the handicapped scholarship has been given to 587 students in Kanker district, 963 students in Bilaspur district, 531 students in Mungeli district, 434 students in Korba, 810 students in Janjgir-Champa district, 438 students in Raigarh, 359 students in Jashpur, 566 students in Surguja, 282 students in Surajpur, 298 students in Balrampur and 798 students in Korea district.


They said, scholarship Rs 50 each has been given to eligible students up to class V. Similarly, eligible students from class VI to VIII has been given Rs 60 each per month, students of class IX to XII Rs 70 each, Rs 85 per month to ITI students and Rs 140 per month to the students residing in hostels, whereas, students pursuing graduation were being given Rs 125 per month and those who residing in hostels were given Rs 180 per month.


Similarly, those who are pursuing post-graduation studies has been given scholarship Rs 170 per month and those post graduate students staying in hostels have been given Rs 240 per month. Such students have been given scholarship, the monthly income of whose parents is under Rs  8,000 per month, they added.
