PhD Fellowship at Medical University of Gdansk in Poland

The Department of Endocrinology and Internal Medicine Medical University of Gdansk, Poland is inviting applications for PhD fellowship. Fellowship is offered for project on “Pre-clinical targeting of PI3K/Akt/mTOR and RAF/MEK/ERK signaling pathways in adrenocortical cancer: impact on steroidogenesis, cell proliferation and apoptosis”. A stipend 3000 PLZ/750 EURO per month will be granted to students. Student will also be given an opportunity to spend 3 months in the best laboratories in the UK for October 2013. The application deadline is 8 June 2013.

Eligibility: 

1. A researcher with a university degree in medicine or biology or biotechnology or pharmacy without PhD

2. Experience in immunohistochemistry

3. Data base creation and statistical analysis.

Scholarship Description: The competition is opened to any enthusiastic and dedicated researcher (a current PhD student or a person who considers becoming one) interested in the highest quality research, team work and international cooperation. Her/his English has to be fluent. The PhD student will be given an opportunity to spend 3 months in the best laboratories in the UK. A Current PhD student is given an opportunity to get involved in this project on top of her/his current PhD commitments. The candidate is strongly encouraged to discuss her/his application with the PhD supervisor before applying. This researcher, who considers becoming a PhD student, is given an opportunity to undertake whole PhD studies under Dr hab. med. Dorota Dworakowska supervision at Medical University of Gdansk, Poland.


Key responsibilities include:

1. Immunohistochemical assessment of the expression profile of genes involved in PI3K/Akt/mTOR and RAF/MEK/ERK pathways as well as genes involved in steroidogenesis assessed in archival material (paraffin blocks) in adrenocortical cancer

2. Collection of clinical information and samples within international cooperation

3. Data base creation and statistical analysis.


What does it cover? The fellowship/stipend (3000 PLZ/750 EURO per month) is available from Foundation for Polish Science and European Union in the frame of the Bridge grant for a PhD student to support him/her during the period of laboratory activity planned for 3 or 12 months for a current or a new PhD student, respectively.


Selection Criteria: The initial assessment (short-listing process) will be based on submitted documentation.


Notification: Selected candidates will be invited for the interview which will take place at Medical University of Gdansk, Poland (exact date to be confirmed based on panel availability).
