Early Stage Research Position at Warsaw University of Technology in Poland

Warsaw University of TechnologyThe Department of Aerodynamics, Institute of Aeronautics and Applied Mechanics, Warsaw University of Technology, Poland is inviting applications for research position. This position is available for a EU Marie Curie About Flow project in which students will receive training in a wide area of adjoint methods, high-performance computing, industrial application and other professional skills through regular workshops and secondments to network partners. The position will start from June/July 2013.

Course Level: Position is available for pursuing research at Department of Aerodynamics, Institute of Aeronautics and Applied Mechanics, Warsaw University of Technology.

Eligibility: Candidates need to fulfill the EC’s eligibility criteria: They must have graduated with a first degree in engineering, applied mathematics or computer science at most 4 years ago. They must not have resided or carried out their main activity in the country of their PhD hosting organization for more than 12 months in the 3 years before the project starts. The project is committed to equal opportunity for all applicants and will adhere to the the European Charter for Researchers.

Necessary qualifications:

1. Master’s degree level qualification and/or equivalent professional experience in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science or Applied Maths.

2. Undergraduate degree or equivalent in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science or Applied Maths.

3. Knowledge of Fluid Mechanics.

4. Programming skills in a high-level language such as C/C++ or Fortran90.

5. Good communication skills (in English) and effective team working.

6. Willingness to work flexibly and under pressure in order to achieve project demands.

7. Willingness to travel to international meetings and to undertake 2 secondments of 2-3 months each at project partners in Europe.

Desirable qualifications: Experience in:

1. Development of numerical methods for PDEs.

2. Writing research reports and papers and case notes

3. Development of algorithms for large-scale solution of PDEs

4. High-performance computing environments,

5. Computational Fluid Dynamics

6. Numerical optimization

7. Linux environment.


Scholarship Open for International Students: The students of Poland can apply for the position.


Scholarship Description: The project started Nov 2012 and will run for 4 years. The PhD students in the network will receive training in a wide area of ad joint methods, high-performance computing, industrial application and other professional skills through regular workshops and secondments to network partners. The project offers a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of this revolutionary area of research and be part of developing the next generation CFD methods.


Start date: Position is available from June/July 2013.


What does it cover? Salary: approx.29000 Euro per year (including all taxes). Mobility allowance: 700 Euro/month for a researcher without family, 1000 Euro/month for a researcher with a family.
