Vice-Chancellor’s Adult Learners’ Awards in New Zealand

The University of Waikato is offering Vice-Chancellor’s Adult Learners’ Awards in New Zealand. The scholarships are available for pursuing undergraduate degree . The awards are intended to encourage more adults to access learning opportunities and to celebrate the efforts, achievements and contributions of adult learners. Four awards of $1,000 each will be awarded annually during Adult Learners’ Week / He Tangata  Matauranga. The awards are not open to application but nominations can be made by fellow students or staff. Nominations and statements of support must be received by the scholarship office no later than 12th August 2013.

Eligibility: To be eligible for nomination for the award, the nominee must:

- be at least 25 years old, and

- be enrolled at the University of Waikato, either full-time or part-time, and

-still be enrolled in the B semester of the year of awarding, and

-be studying towards the completion of an undergraduate tertiary qualification.


Scholarship Open for International Students: The students of New Zealand can apply for these scholarships.


Scholarship Description: The Vice Chancellor’s Adult Learners’ Awards were established in 2000 and first awarded in 2001. The awards are intended to encourage more adults to access learning opportunities and to celebrate the efforts, achievements and contributions of adult learners. Four awards of $1,000 each will be awarded annually during Adult Learners’ Week / He Tangata  Matauranga. This is normally the week in which UNESCO’s International Literacy Day (8 September) falls. The Scholarships Office will bring the awards to the attention of students and Deans of the Faculties/School who should in turn arrange to bring the awards to the attention of staff and students. The Communications and External Relations Division will supplement this through internal promotion.

Notification: The recipient must be available to accept the award in person at the Awards Ceremony on 4th September 2013.


How to Apply: The mode of applying is by post. Nominations and statements of support must be received by the Scholarships Office The Scholarship Office will collate the nominations and forward them to the appropriate School/Faculty Dean for the selection and approval of up to four nominees each. The selection of award recipients will be made by members of the University of Waikato Adult Learners’ Week/He Tangata M?tauranga Working Group at a special meeting convened by the Deputy Vice Chancellor or nominee.


Scholarship Application Deadline: The application deadline is 12th August 2013.
