Each year, the United States –India Educational Foundation (USIEF) offers fellowships for Indian citizens. Fellowships are offered for faculty, researchers and professionals to teach, conduct research or carry out a combination of teaching and research at a US institution. To be considered for these fellowships, applicants have a PhD degree or equivalent published work with at least five years of relevant teaching/research experience. These fellowships are for four to nine months. July 15, 2013 is the application deadline.
Study Subject(s): Applications from all disciplines will be considered. Priority fields are: Agricultural Sciences; Economics; Education; Energy, Sustainable Development and Climate Change; Environment; International Relations; Management and Leadership Development; Media and Communications with focus on Public Service Broadcasting; Public Administration; Public Health; Science and Technology; Study of India with focus on contemporary issues; and Study of the United States. For Study of India or the Study of the United States (American Studies) the areas could include: language and literature, history, government, economics, society and culture, religion, and film studies.
Course Level: These fellowships are offered for faculty, researchers, and professionals to teach, conduct research, or carry out a combination of teaching and research at a U.S. institution.

Eligibility: In addition to the General Prerequisites:
-faculty/researchers should have a Ph.D. degree or equivalent published work with at least five years of relevant teaching/research experience;
-professionals outside academia should have a Master’s degree or equivalent published work with recognized professional standing and at least five years relevant experience;
-if employed, applications should be routed through proper channel; and
-should enclose a recent significant publication (copy of paper/article).

Scholarship Description: The Fulbright-Nehru Academic and Professional Excellence Fellowships aim to provide Indian faculty, researchers, and professionals the opportunity to teach, conduct research, or carry out a combination of teaching and research at a U.S. institution. Depending on the U.S. host institution, it is likely that the grantee may contribute towards developing curriculum and conducting workshops and seminars. These fellowships are for four to nine months.
Duration of award(s): These fellowships are for four to nine months.
What does it cover? The fellowships provide round-trip economy class air travel, a monthly stipend, Accident and Sickness Program for Exchanges per U.S. Government guidelines, a modest settling-in allowance, and a professional allowance. Subject to availability of funds, in case of grantees on eight or nine month grants, a dependent allowance and international travel may be provided for one accompanying dependent provided the dependent is with the grantee in the U.S for at least 80% of the grant period.
How to Apply: Unless otherwise specified, you are required to submit your completed application as an e-mail attachment. In addition, you should print a copy of your application and sign it. If you are not employed, please forward the signed copy to the USIEF office in your region. If you are employed, you should forward the signed copy of your application (including enclosures, if any) through the appropriate administrative authority, to the USIEF office within your region. In case of central or state government employees, the signed copy of your application should be forwarded through the cadre controlling authority so as to reach USIEF by the application deadline. Applications must reach USIEF by the specified due date or the following business day if the due date falls on a weekend/holiday. All entries in the application form must be computer-generated and not hand-written. Please do not exceed the word limit or attach additional pages to answer questions, unless otherwise specified.
