National health and Research Council of Australia is offering postgraduate scholarships to support outstanding health and medical graduates. Successful applicants can attain a research based postgraduate degree, which may be a PhD, a PhD equivalent degree, or Master’s Degree. Categories of Postgraduate Scholarships awarded are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Research Postgraduate Scholarship, Clinical Research Postgraduate Scholarship,Dora Lush Biomedical Research Postgraduate Scholarship, Public Health and Health Services Research Postgraduate Scholarship, Part-time Research Postgraduate Scholarship, Co-Funded Partnership Scholarship and Gustav Nossal Scholarship. Clinical Research Postgraduate Scholarship are awarded to provide support to combined MBBS/PhD students, and medical or dental graduates .Dora Lush Biomedical Research Postgraduate Scholarship are awarded to graduates .Public Health and Health Services Research Postgraduate Scholarship encourages graduates.Part-time Research Postgraduate Scholarship are available in each category to graduates who have significant caring commitments or a medical condition which limits their ability to undertake full-time studies (conditions apply).Co-Funded Partnership Scholarship are offered through funding partnerships agreed between NHMRC and partner organizations. Gustav Nossal Scholarship will be selected from the highest ranked applicants who are considered to be outstanding researchers from Clinical and Dora Lush Biomedical – Graduate (Other).
-Applications for all NHMRC funding schemes are subject to eligibility rules. Applications which do not meet these eligibility guidelines may be removed from the assessment process.
-NHMRC may compare the research proposed with Research Support grants it currently funds, and grants provided by other agencies.
-NHMRC may remove from consideration any application it considers to duplicate research previously, or currently being undertaken.

Scholarship Description: The aim of the NHMRC Postgraduate Scholarships (PGS) scheme is to support outstanding health and medical graduates early in their career so that they can be trained to conduct research that is internationally competitive and to develop a capacity for original independent research within Australia. This is usually achieved by NHMRC funding successful applicants to attain a research based postgraduate degree, which may be a PhD, a PhD equivalent degree, or Masters Degree.

What does it cover? Changes to the Postgraduate Scholarship scheme for 2013:
-The requirement for applicants to be enrolled in a PhD program for Dora Lush Biomedical Research Postgraduate Scholarship has been removed; and the scoring matrix has been updated;
-Medical/Dental category has been re-named the Clinical Research Postgraduate Scholarship to align with NHMRC descriptors of broad research areas;
-Public Health and Primary Health categories have been combined and renamed to Public Health and Health Services Research Postgraduate Scholarship;
-MBBS/PhD applicants are no longer to apply in the Dora Lush Biomedical Research Postgraduate Scholarship category but may apply in the Clinical Research Postgraduate Research Scholarship category;
-A new Part-Time Research Postgraduate Scholarship category has been introduced (conditions apply); and
-Clarification of the assessment of applicants who are bioinformaticians and/or biostatisticians has been provided.
How to Apply: Applicants can apply electronically. The NHMRC’s Research Grants Management System (RGMS) must be used to access/enter the Profile and CV, and to submit the PGS application. Applicants that are not yet registered in RGMS should contact the Research Help Centre (RHC) at help-at-nhmrc.gov.au for more information.
