EngD Studentship in Disinfection Modelling for Water Distribution Systems in UK

Cranfield UniversityEPSRC and Scottish Water through the STREAM Industrial Doctorate Centre is funding EngD studentship in disinfection modeling for water distribution systems. Students of UK/EU are eligible for applying this studentship. Studentship covers tuition fees at the UK/EU rate only and provides a bursary of £19,000 per annum for the first two years and £20,000 for the second two years. The four year postgraduate programme leads to the award of an EngD degree including 6 months of taught courses. The deadline for applications is 27 May 2013.

Study Subject(s):This studentship is provided to study Disinfection Modelling for Water Distribution Systems at Cranfield University in UK.
Course Level:This studentship is for pursuing EngD degree level at Cranfield University in UK.
Scholarship Provider: Studentship is funded by EPSRC and Scottish Water through the STREAM Industrial Doctorate Centre
Scholarship can be taken at: UK

Eligibility:-This position is funded under the STREAM Industrial Doctorate Centre which is delivering a new generation of engineering and research leaders for the water sector.

-Potential applicants for Research Engineer positions should be able to demonstrate enthusiasm, resourcefulness a mature approach to learning, creativity, and a sound understanding of one or more branches of science or engineering.

-Knowledge of water engineering is desirable.

Scholarship Open for Students of Following Countries: The students of UK/Europe (Albania, Andorra, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, San Marino, Serbia and Montenegro, Slovakia (Slovak Republic), Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine and Vatican City) can apply for this studentship.

Scholarship Description: The main research question will be to integrate knowledge of hydraulic flow patterns and chlorine reaction kinetics to actual disinfection levels. A pilot plant will be constructed with sufficient flexibility so that it can mimic the range of differences observed between contact tank designs identified during an initial survey. The plant will then be operated across a range of flow rates and chlorine doses to develop a disinfection model. The project is embedded in the STREAM programme. STREAM is an Industrial Doctoral Centre (IDC) for the Water Sector funded through industry sponsors and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and aims to deliver the next generation of research leaders for the water sector. This specific work will be performed with our partner Scottish Water. The four year postgraduate programme leads to the award of an EngD degree including 6 months of taught courses. The interdisciplinary project focus will entail close interactions both with engineers and microbiologists.
